Description

Provide assistance and counseling to students applying for financial aid and veterans benefits; determine and verify student’s need and award financial aid accordingly; award Federal Work-Study funds to eligible students; verify enrollment status of students; assist in establishment and maintenance of individual files and reports on financial aid recipients; maintain accurate records and documentation; assist in identification of eligible recipients for scholarships; assist with “college nights”; comply with federal, state, and local regulations; keep abreast with changes in regulations; and establish environment of equity, sensitivity, understanding and respect for diversity, inclusion of students, faculty, and staff.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties

  • Perform review, verify and award financial aid to student records.
  • Perform required monthly reconciliation of all Federal and State aid programs, with the US Department of Education, the State of NC, and the College's Financial Services Office.
  • Responsible for providing individual counseling to students and potential students on all aspects of financial aid via telephone, mail, e-mail and in person, in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Assist in the administration of the College's efforts to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and audit requirements as specified by the US Department of Education, the NC State Educational Assistance Authority and the NC Community College System.
  • Operate and maintain Colleague financial aid module to verify, package and award financial aid.
  • Make presentations for prospective and new students at high school financial aid nights, other events in the community and on campus.
  • Coordinate the Federal Work Study program and student veteran benefit certifications in compliance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the Director, Financial Aid/Veterans Affairs.


Additional Duties 

  • Establish and maintain the files and records of the Office of Financial Aid/Veterans Affairs.
  • Assist students in filing applications for financial aid.
  • Inform students about types of financial aid available and procedures to follow.
  • Maintain the records for all student awards.
  • Certify and maintain files for veteran students.
  • Generate and mail Financial Aid and Veterans Affiars correspondence to students.
  • Verify enrollment status of students based on No Show Report and Drop Report.
  • Cooridnate the payroll process for FWS program and prepare payroll requisition for those recipients.
  • Verify attendance of VA students on a monthly basis.
  • Coordinate daily calendar and make appointments for the office.
  • Provide support for workshops, career fairs, and other activities
