Purpose of Position

The Financial Aid Specialist supports the daily operations of the Office of Financial Aid by managing a variety of federal, state, and institutional processes. This position is responsible for overseeing daily, weekly, and monthly reports related to Federal Pell Grant, Federal TEACH Grant, and transient study processing. The specialist imports and exports federal grant files to the Department of Education on a daily basis to ensure accurate and timely data exchange.

The specialist serves as the primary point of contact for the transient study program at Charlotte, which includes adjusting financial aid based on final course outcomes. This role also manages the Special Rule Pell Grant—formerly the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant (IASG) and the Children of Fallen Heroes (CFH) Scholarship—requiring aid adjustments based on documentation received. Additional responsibilities include providing backup support for withdrawal processing, study abroad, and Part of Term functions.

In addition to processing duties, the Financial Aid Specialist provides financial aid counseling by phone, email, and in person. This includes offering guidance on financial aid policies and procedures to prospective and current students, parents, and campus visitors.

Required

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred

  • Experience in Higher Education, preferably Financial Aid
  • Knowledge of Financial Aid regulations; knowledge of Federal Pell Grant and Federal TEACH Grants and other reports.
  • Banner experience.
  • Microsoft and Google Suite intermediate experience preferred.
  • Strong Critical Thinking Skills; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with exceptional attention to details.
